Victorian Valentine Workshop for Kids
 
   Young people can find inspiration from the
  museum's collection of vintage Valentine
  cards and create their own masterpiece to
  take home. There will also be a brief
  introduction to the history of Valentine's
  Day. This program is free of charge and
  open to the public.

John Strickland art exhibit opening:

"The Language of Color"

 

 

Franklin artist John Strickland has displayed his paintings around the world; now you can see an exhibit of his work through May. The exhibit includes figurative, abstract, landscape, and jazz-oriented subjects. A casual reception for the opening of the exhibit is free of charge and open to the public. The exhibit will remain on display through May 24th.

Wine, Cheese, and All That Jazz

 

 

Join us for the Johnson County Historical Society’s annual fundraiser! Enjoy samples  from local wineries, a wide selection of cheeses and other hors d'oeuvres, music from a live jazz combo, and a silent auction.  And, there will be a sneak preview of the new permanent exhibit "In the Business of Good Health"!

Tickets are $25 in advance (call to reserve, or stop by the museum to pick up), or $30 at the door. This event is for adults over 21 only.

Grand Opening of In the Business of Good Health

The Johnson County Museum recently acquired many items from the former Shaffer Drug Store in Edinburgh, that had been open for many years. They will be featured, along with other pharmacy related artifacts in a new exhibit In the Business of Good Health.  This new permanent exhibit is a fascinating look at the ways that health care and business intersected in Johnson County drug stores during the 1920s.

Late Night in Genealogy

It's time once again to burn the midnight oil in the museum's local history and genealogy library. WIth the assistance of our helpful volunteers, what fascinating historical information will you be able to uncover? Special programs TBA.

Abraham Lincoln: Hoosier Hero  

Storyteller Danny Russel recounts Honest Abe's Hoosier days, combining lighthearted tales of Lincoln's boyhood with the triumphs, challenges, and personal tragedies that helped shape the future president. This program is suitable for all ages, and is free of charge.


May 5   The Voices of Franklin Spring Concert

2:30 pm

Sponsored by the Williams Endowment

 

Enjoy the Voices of Franklin choir group as they perform “Americana,” a review of American folk, gospel, country, and jazz.  Light refreshments will be served following the performance.  Tickets are $8 and available in advance at the museum or at the door the day of the show. 



May 19   Romancing the Spoon: The Victorian Love Affair with Silver

Experience a Victorian afternoon tea and learn the fascinating story of how the affluence of the "Gilded Age" made silver one of the "must-haves" of the Victorian era. Tickets for this event are $10.
